Underfloor heating gives a room a gentle, even warmth that radiators struggle to match, and it frees up wall space for furniture, kitchen units or glazing. We install warm-water (wet) underfloor heating in homes across Barnet, Enfield, Haringey, Camden, Islington, Hackney, Waltham Forest, Bromley, Ealing, Redbridge and Harrow, connecting it to your boiler and controls so the whole system works as one.
How warm-water underfloor heating works
A wet underfloor heating system circulates warm water through loops of flexible pipe laid beneath the floor. The pipes are fed from a manifold, which is usually fitted in a cupboard or discreet spot near the rooms it serves. The manifold controls the flow of water to each loop, and a mixing unit keeps the water at the lower temperature underfloor systems need.
Because the whole floor area becomes a gentle heat emitter, the system does not need to run as hot as radiators to keep a room comfortable. Heat rises evenly from the floor, rather than circulating from one hot spot on a wall, which reduces cold corners and draughts.
Screed and overlay systems
In new builds and extensions, pipes are often laid on insulation and covered with a sand and cement screed. For renovations where raising the floor is a concern, low-profile overlay or panel systems can be laid over an existing floor with only a modest increase in height. We will explain which approach suits your project.
Where underfloor heating suits
Underfloor heating works particularly well in:
- Extensions – you are laying a new floor anyway, so it is the ideal moment to install it.
- Kitchens and open-plan living spaces – no radiators getting in the way of units, islands or bi-fold doors.
- Bathrooms and en suites – warm tiles underfoot and more space for fittings.
- Renovations – when floors are coming up as part of a wider refurbishment.
- New builds – where it can be designed into the property from the start.
It is less straightforward in rooms where you are not replacing the floor, or in poorly insulated spaces, so we look at each room on its merits.
Benefits of underfloor heating
- Comfortable, even warmth across the whole room, without hot and cold patches.
- More usable space, with walls freed up for furniture, cabinets and glazing.
- Lower operating temperatures, which suit modern condensing boilers well.
- Quiet and discreet, with nothing to see once the floor is finished.
- Room-by-room control, with thermostats for each zone so you heat only the spaces you use.
Underfloor heating responds more slowly than radiators, so it works best on a steady schedule rather than being switched on and off in short bursts. We will explain how to get the most from it.
Our process
- Design – we measure the rooms, consider insulation and floor finishes, and work out pipe layout, loop lengths and heat output so each room reaches a comfortable temperature.
- Installation – we lay insulation and pipework, fit the manifold and mixing unit, and connect the system to your boiler. We coordinate with your builder or floor layer where needed.
- Testing – every loop is pressure tested before the floor is covered, so any issue is found while the pipes are still accessible.
- Controls setup – we fit and configure room thermostats and timers, balance the loops, and show you how to use everything.
If your existing boiler is old or undersized, we will tell you. Sometimes a project is a good moment to consider a replacement boiler, and our guide to boiler efficiency ratings explains why low-temperature heating and modern boilers pair well. We also recommend that underfloor circuits are kept clean, and a system clean and magnetic filter helps protect the whole system.
