Boiler & heating FAQs

Your questions answered

How much does a new boiler cost?

It depends on the boiler type and model, whether it is moving location, the flue route, any system cleaning needed and the controls you choose. Rather than give a misleading ballpark, we survey your home for free and provide a fixed-price written quote, so you know exactly what you will pay before agreeing to anything.

Do you handle emergency boiler repairs?

Yes. We prioritise urgent calls where a home has no heating or no hot water, particularly where elderly or vulnerable people or young children are affected. Call 07709 247215, Monday to Saturday 8am to 8pm. If you smell gas, call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 immediately.

How often should my boiler be serviced?

Once a year. Manufacturers recommend an annual service by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and it is usually a condition of the guarantee. Regular servicing keeps the boiler running safely and efficiently and helps catch small faults before they turn into breakdowns.

What is MagnaCleanse and do I need it?

MagnaCleanse is Adey's system cleaning process, which uses magnets and a cleaning chemical to remove sludge from radiators and pipework. It is worth considering if radiators are cold at the bottom, your boiler is noisy, or you are having a new boiler fitted to an older system.

Which boiler brands do you install?

We install Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Viessmann and Intergas boilers. Each brand has its own strengths, and we recommend a model based on your home, hot water needs and budget rather than pushing a particular name.

Which areas do you cover?

We cover the London Boroughs of Barnet, Enfield, Haringey, Camden, Islington, Hackney, Waltham Forest, Bromley, Ealing, Redbridge and Harrow, including neighbourhoods such as Finchley, Beckenham, Acton, Ilford and Pinner. If you are near a borough boundary, send us your postcode and we will confirm.

Why does Gas Safe registration matter?

By law, anyone working on gas appliances in your home must be on the Gas Safe Register. Registration shows the engineer is qualified for that type of work. Always ask to see the engineer's Gas Safe ID card and check the details on the Gas Safe Register website.

What guarantees come with a new boiler?

New boilers come with a manufacturer guarantee, and on some models this can be up to 10 years. The length depends on the model and on the boiler being registered and serviced every year. We confirm the guarantee in your quote and register it for you.

How long does a boiler installation take?

A straightforward like-for-like replacement is usually done in a day. Converting from a regular boiler to a combi, moving the boiler or adding a new cylinder typically takes two to three days. We confirm the expected timescale in your written quote.

Should I choose a combi or a system boiler?

Combis heat water on demand and save space, so they suit flats and smaller homes with one bathroom. System boilers store hot water in a cylinder and suit larger homes where several showers or taps run at once. We recommend the right type after checking your water pressure and usage.

What gas safety checks do landlords need?

Landlords must have a Gas Safe registered engineer carry out a gas safety check on each gas appliance and flue every year. Tenants must receive a copy of the record within 28 days of the check, and new tenants before they move in. We carry out these checks across our areas.

My boiler has lost pressure. What can I safely do?

Check the gauge; most systems run around 1 to 1.5 bar when cold, but follow your boiler manual. You can usually re-pressurise using the filling loop as the manual describes. If pressure keeps dropping, you see water leaking, or you are unsure, stop and call us. Never open the boiler casing.
