Step by step
Our boiler installation process
No surprises, no jargon. Here are the 12 steps we follow on every boiler installation, from your first call to aftercare once the new boiler is running.
Knowing what to expect makes a boiler replacement far less stressful. Whether you live in a flat in Ealing or a family home in Bromley, every installation we carry out follows the same clear process. It is designed to get the right boiler into your home, fitted safely and neatly, with nothing left unexplained.
Before installation day
The groundwork happens before any tools come out. This is where we make sure the boiler we fit is the right one.
- Initial enquiry – you call us or send an enquiry. We ask a few questions about your current boiler, your home and what is prompting the change, and arrange a convenient time to visit.
- Home survey and consultation – one of our Gas Safe registered engineers visits your home. We look at the existing boiler, flue, gas supply, pipework and where a new boiler could go, and we listen to what you want from your heating.
- Heating and hot water assessment – we check your mains water pressure and flow rate, count radiators and bathrooms, and consider how many people need hot water at once. This tells us what size and type of boiler your home really needs.
- Boiler recommendation – we explain whether a combi, system or regular boiler suits you best and suggest suitable models. You can read about the options on our boiler brands page.
- Fixed quotation – you receive a clear, fixed-price written quote listing the boiler, controls, any system cleaning and all the work involved. The price you agree is the price you pay.
- Installation appointment – once you are happy, we book a date that suits you and confirm how long the work will take and when you will be without heating and hot water.
Installation day
On the day, our engineers arrive as agreed, protect your floors and furnishings and get to work.
- Removal of old boiler – we safely isolate the gas, water and electrics, drain down as needed and remove the old boiler, along with any redundant tanks or cylinders included in the job.
- New boiler installation – we fit the new boiler, flue, gas and water connections, condensate drain and controls, following the manufacturer's instructions and current regulations.
- System flushing and cleaning where required – sludge from an old system can damage a new boiler. Where needed we clean the system, often with a MagnaCleanse system flush, add inhibitor and fit a magnetic filter.
- Testing and commissioning – we test for gas tightness, check gas pressure and combustion, confirm the flue is working correctly, and run the heating and hot water to make sure everything performs as it should.
After installation
A good installation does not end when the boiler fires up.
- Customer handover – we show you how to use the boiler and controls, how to check and top up pressure if needed, and where the key valves are. We leave the manufacturer's paperwork and register your guarantee.
- Aftercare and servicing advice – we explain what the guarantee requires, usually an annual service, and remain on hand for any questions. When the time comes, we can carry out your first annual boiler service.
Building Regulations and paperwork
Installing a new gas boiler is notifiable work under the Building Regulations. Because we are Gas Safe registered, we can self-certify the work and notify it to your local authority building control through the Gas Safe Register, so you do not need to apply separately. You should then receive a Building Regulations Compliance Certificate in the post. Keep it safe with your boiler paperwork, as it can be requested when you sell your home. GOV.UK explains how this works on its page about building regulations approval and competent person schemes.
You will also receive a record of commissioning, often in the form of the Benchmark checklist, which your engineer completes to confirm the boiler has been installed and set up correctly.

FAQs
Questions about installation process
How soon can you install after I accept the quote?
It depends on how busy the season is and whether the boiler and parts are in stock. We give you a realistic installation date when you accept the quote and book a day that suits you. If your boiler has failed completely, let us know and we will do our best to help.
Do I need to be home during the installation?
An adult should be home at the start of the day to let us in and confirm details, and at the end for the handover so we can show you how everything works. In between, you are welcome to carry on with your day while we work.
What if you find a problem during the installation?
Our survey is designed to spot issues before installation day, so surprises are rare. If something unexpected does come up, such as hidden pipework damage, we stop, explain the issue and agree any additional work with you before carrying it out.
Will you need to make holes in my walls?
If the boiler stays in the same place and the flue position is suitable, usually not. Moving a boiler or changing the flue route can mean a new opening through an external wall. We explain any building work involved during the survey and include it in your quote.
What paperwork should I receive?
You should receive the manufacturer's instructions, a completed commissioning record such as the Benchmark checklist, confirmation that the guarantee has been registered, and a Building Regulations Compliance Certificate, which arrives by post after the work has been notified.
